1930`s

1935 to 1939 Wallan played in the Hume Highway Football Association

My name is Mick Kelly and my uncle Colin Collins played football for Wallan & District in the 1930s (we believe) I am doing a project on early Collins' family history through the family photos that I have collected and are trying to establish what year this photo was taken and any history attached to the team.IE., Premiers or Runners up. My cousin found this photo amongst her mother's photos and I would appreciate any help you can give. My uncle is standing in the back row extreme right.

Kind Regards.

Michael (Mick) Kelly

I have been researching the Darraweit Guim Football Club and published a book on that club in 1995. I am presently revising the book for an updated version.
The photo above is of the Wallan East & District Football Club which were runners up in the Hume highway association in 1933. They finished minor premiers, but lost the final. So they were entitled to a challenge final which they also lost.

The following year they were also minor premiers once again, this time they won the final and finished as premiers in 1934.

This club was only in existence for two seasons and never lost a game at Wallan East. it was actually a composite team from the Wallan and Darraweit Guim Clubs who were both struggling for numbers.

When Darraweit Guim reformed in 1935, Wallan East & District had to disbanded. However a new Wallan East Football Club was formed for 1935 season.
